GM Pricay Policy page.2Perhaps General Mills thought it was no big deal when they discreetly slipped the words “binding arbitration” into their website privacy policy page.  The move, however, did not escape Stephanie Strom, a writer for the New York Times, and an astute observer of trends in food policy.  On April 16, 2014, her article “When ‘Liking’ a Brand Online Voids the Right to Sue,” precipitated a flood of public outrage that was so powerful it forced General Mills — only a few days later — to apologize and reverse itself. The UVM Breakthrough Leaders Program: Continuing a Vermont Tradition

image Whether it is a parking lot chock full of out-of-staters waiting for their case of Heady Topper beer or a meandering New Englander traveling to the picturesque town of Grafton for a taste of 4 year-old cheddar, it is clear that the flavors of Vermont are garnering quite a bit of attention these days.  For a state boasting the second smallest population in the United States, it is quite astonishing that Vermont would emerge as a leader in the burgeoning national food culture. From Finance to Farming, and Never Looking Back

MikeProiaMike Proia walked away from the finance world to pursue his dream of becoming a farmer. The Connecticut native was working full time as a senior bond trader at Cigna Investment Management when he realized he needed to change gears and take his life in an entirely new direction.

“I found myself experiencing a crisis of conscience,” says Proia, who majored in finance and minored in history at the University of Connecticut. “I wanted to become more of a producer than a consumer, and wanted to better align my lifestyle with my values.” Continue reading
