FAQS

Why Ultrasound Fundamentals?

Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) is becoming more common practice in healthcare settings. Few healthcare professionals, however, have training in POCUS. Practitioners must complete the Ultrasound Fundamentals Certificate or equivalent, to gain privileges to use POCUS to assess their patients.

What is the time commitment?

This will vary but expect to engage for 5-7 hours per module. There is a three-month maximum to complete the 10 modules of the certificate.

Will we interact with the instructors in the course?

Courses are offered as self-paced, and therefore are not facilitated by an instructor. If you have any questions, we encourage you to reach out to learn@uvm.edu.

What is a typical module like?

Each module is packed with information designed to make you more comfortable utilizing POCUS with your own patients. You will find text, images, videos, and activities that will allow you to move at your own pace, review as necessary, and complete activities that help to solidify your knowledge.

What types of assignments will I be asked to complete?

You will be encouraged to participate in numerous self-check activities per module, all designed to help you review and cement your knowledge. At the end of each module, you will take a more formal assessment that moves you toward your certificate.

Are there required textbooks that must be purchased?

There are no required textbooks for this certificate program. All the information is contained within the modules.

How will I be graded?

You will only be graded on the final assessments for each module, and to receive your certificate, you must attain a grade of at least 80 for each module. All other activities within the course are ungraded.

Are Continuing Medical and Interprofessional Education credits available?

Yes
