FAQs

What is the time commitment per week?

Seminars run 8:30 to 4:30.  Some sessions require limited preparatory work, which will be available in Dropbox about a week prior to the session.

Are materials included? If yes, how are they distributed? 

Yes, all program materials are included and the materials are posted in Dropbox about one week prior to the session.  Some instructors may not provide materials in advance.

Is this program accredited?

No.  Program participants earn a Certificate of Achievement through the University of Vermont Continuing and Distance Education upon successful completion.

Is this a graduate level program?

This program is designed for professionals who are rising leaders, supervisors and managers of all levels.  No undergraduate degree is required to participate in the program.  Some of our participants have more advanced degrees.

Do I have to pay for parking?

Parking is on site at the DoubleTree and there is no cost to park there.

Should I bring a laptop? Is there internet?

Yes, there is wifi and you should bring a laptop to take notes and have access to the materials during class.

Who do I contact if I am unable to attend a session (sick, weather, emergency)?

If you cannot make the session, please send an email to learn@uvm.edu to let us know.  You can miss one session and still earn the certificate.  You also have the option of staying at the DoubleTree at the UVM rate if you know the weather will restrict you from attending.

What do I do if I have a dietary restriction?

If you have any dietary restrictions please contact Nichole Hathaway nhathawa@uvm.edu and state what your dietary restrictions are so we can work with the DoubleTree.  You will also need to introduce yourself to the catering staff person when you arrive so they know who is getting the meal and they may ask you for preferences.

Is Federal or Institutional Financial Aid available? Also, is tuition remission available for UVM employees?

While this non-credit Certificate does not qualify for federal student grants or loans or University of Vermont scholarships, depending on your home state, this program may qualify for workforce development grants. Contact your State Department of Labor to determine which grants may support individuals seeking education to pursue opportunities for career change.

The Vermont Legislature designates a certain amount of grant money every year for Vermont residents who want to pursue education or training beyond high school. These grants are administered through VSAC, and are distributed based on financial need.

Can I enroll in this Certificate if I am an out-of-state or international student? Does the tuition rate differ if I am an out-of-state or international student?

Yes! Anyone may enroll in the program. The tuition rate is set at $3346 for the certificate OR $478 per session, for all students and does not differ based on a student’s residency. You may also qualify for one of our discounts.

Are payment plans available?

No formal payment plans are currently available for this program, tuition must be paid in full prior to beginning the program. You have the option of paying in full, or by making a minimum payment of $500 at registration, however, ensuring the balance due is two weeks prior to the start of the offering.

What is the payment policy?

All payments must be paid in full two weeks prior to the start of this offering. A participant will not be allowed to attend this program if a balance is due.  You have the option of paying in full by credit card, or by making a minimum payment of $500 at registration, however, ensuring the balance due is two weeks prior to the start of the offering.  You will receive email reminders if you have a balance due.   If you are paying by a check or purchase order, e mail payments  to University of Vermont CDE, 322 South Prospect Street, Burlington VT 05401, ATTN:  Accounts Receivable.

What is the refund policy?

If you need to cancel your attendance from this program, you must notify us via email at cdecs@uvm.edu at least 3 days prior to the start date of this program in order to receive a full refund, less a $25 cancellation fee.  If a medical condition necessitates cancellation/withdrawal (documentation provided), this will be reviewed by our Studies Committee for any type for a refund.

Why should I attend this program over others?

The program is taught by leading expert practitioners and academics.  Multiple instructors that provide a variety of perspectives.  . It is designed for working professionals to minimize time away from work and family.   The information you will learn can be applied immediately in your workplace, and help you better manage your organization.

Will I receive a 1098-T for this program?
