Belize Semester Abroad Program in Sustainable Development

Spring Semester, 2011

January 5 - May 1, 2011

  • Live and study in Belize (Central America)
  • Study with UVM faculty and staff, and participate in one or more courses offered by Galen University (all courses taught in English)
  • Focus on issues of sustainable development; but also have access to courses such as Indigenous Perspectives on Development, Social Issues in a Developing Country, Adventure and Eco–tourism, and Maya Culture and Archeology .
  • Take courses alongside Belizean students, and join them on field trips, in clubs, and sports teams.
  • Earn UVM credits and meet CALS/ENVS major and distribution requirements
  • Earn credits towards a minor in Community and International Development.
  • Pay UVM tuition and apply your UVM financial aid (additional scholarships are available)
  • Practice Spanish (much of Belize is bi-lingual)
  • Get hands-on, field-based experience relevant to your academic work
  • Travel to Maya archeological sites, wildlife preserves, rainforests, and coral reefs.
