Section Description

Fundamentals of Calculus I is the first course in our two-course applied calculus sequence. The follow-up course is Math 1224 – Fundamentals of Calculus II. Fundamentals of Calculus I is an introduction to the calculus of functions of one variable. This will include an understanding of the concepts of limits, continuity, the definition of the derivative, the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, techniques and applications of differentiation, basic integration including substitution, and assorted applications of integration. This basically covers chapters 2 – 5 of the textbook given below. Topics will be presented with a level of depth and rigor appropriate for students pursuing degrees in business, economics, social and life sciences. Please speak to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics if you are unsure if you are taking the correct calculus course.

Required Course Materials: Online Homework Access
You will need an access code for MyLabMath online homework, which includes access to an eBook. The access code can be purchased directly from MyLabMath once the course Brightspace page is open.
There is a free trial period (about 14 days, I believe) for MyLabMath. I recommend taking advantage of the free trial period before purchasing anything. Once you purchase access to MyLabMath, it is completely non-refundable.
Students will be expected to spend 6-9 hours per week on this class.

Evaluation

Grades will be based on several homework assignments (unlimited attempts), two in-class midterm exams, and a final exam.
