Section Description

The aim of this course is to explore the fundamental concepts in neurobiology. Topics include electrical signaling, synaptic transmission, signal transduction, sensory and motor functions, cortical functions, and disease. This course will emphasize the cellular and molecular basis of these events.

Section Expectation

Acquire foundational knowledge in neurobiology emphasizing the cellular and molecular events that regulate function of the nervous system; recognize the experimental design and tools used by neuroscientists to study the nervous system; interpret scientific literature based on knowledge acquired during the course.

Evaluation

There will be four assessments during the semester. In addition, students will complete and submit activities to help solidify concepts learned in class. There will also be four paper discussions based on research articles chosen by the instructor.
