Funding/Scholarships: Please see below for information regarding the University of Vermont Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Scholarship. Federal financial aid is not available for non-credit professional programs.

Department of Labor Grants: For individuals outside of Vermont, consult your State Department of Labor to determine if there are training grants available to support non-credit certificates aimed at a career change.

For Vermont Residents: Vermont’s Department of Labor has approved this program for grants to cover a portion of the program fees. The Vermont Legislature designates a certain amount of grant money every year for Vermont residents who want to pursue education or training beyond high school. These grants are administered through VSAC.

Can I enroll in this Certificate if I am an out-of-state or international student? Does the tuition rate differ if I am an out-of-state or international student?

Yes! Anyone may enroll in the program. The tuition rate will be set for all students and will not differ based on a student’s residency.

Payment Policy

Students may register by paying online via credit card the full $600 program fee for the 4-week course or the full $300 for the 2-week course.

Are payment plans available?

Payment plans are not currently available for this program. Tuition must be paid in full two weeks prior to beginning the program.

Refund Policy

If you need to cancel your attendance, you must notify us via email at learn@uvm.edu or call us at (802) 656-2085 at least three business days prior to the start date of the course to receive a full refund, less a $25 cancellation fee. If a medical condition necessitates cancellation/withdrawal (documentation provided), this will be reviewed by our Studies Committee for any type of refund.


University of Vermont Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Scholarship for End-of-Life Doula Professional Certificate Candidates

The University of Vermont (UVM) End-of-Life Doula Professional Certificate program supports the development and entry into the Doula profession of more individuals who, by their background, work, studies, and/or service endeavors, increase, support and demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.  The goal of this scholarship is to broaden the reach of doulas and aspiring doulas to provide culturally-affirming EOL care within more communities. The scholarship covers the entire cost of the End-of-Life Doula Professional Certificate course of your choice.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA – must meet all three:

  • Financial need – you must certify that you have income at or below 300% of the federal poverty guidelines (FPG) by household size. Please refer to the table below to check your financial eligibility (For audit purposes, UVM reserves the right to request additional information to verify income. Please refer to the table below for federal poverty guidelines)
  • An Individual who, by their background or through their work, studies, and/or service endeavors, increases or supports diversity, equity and inclusion
  • A commitment to furthering social justice through End-of-Life or Companion Animal doula work.
  • At this time, the scholarship is only open to current US residents.

Scholarship applications are currently closed for the Fall 2023 session for the online Companion Animal and Companion Animal Alumni courses developed by The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine in partnership with Professional and Continuing Education at The University of Vermont.

  • Scholarship Application Opens: May 1, 2023.

  • Scholarship awarded on or before: July 1, 2023

If you are awarded a UVM Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion scholarship for one of the End-of-Life Doula Professional Certificate courses, you will be notified and a UVM representative will assist with your registration. We will do our best to honor your preferred session choice. NOTE: Payment will not be made directly to you, and if you decide not to attend, your scholarship will be transferred to a different applicant.
