Matilda Garrido is a certified thanatologist and a Fellow in Thanatology (through the Association for Death Education and Counseling) and holds master’s degrees in thanatology and bioethics. She has extensive experience working with the dying, families of the dying, and the bereaved. Matilda is focused on normalizing the experience of grief and reducing death fears through education, focused action, and increased community supports for the dying and grieving. She received her masters degree in thanatology from Marian University and her masters in bioethics from Albert Einstein School of Medicine/Benjamin Cardozo School of Law. She is a graduate of the End of Life Doula, the Companion Animal End of Life Doula, and the Pediatric End of Life Doula programs, and course developer for the Grief and Bereavement Specialist Profession Certificate and the upcoming Life Transitions course. Outside of UVM, she runs local grief and bereavement groups and end of life planning seminars, and serves as a memorial planner working directly with families to beautifully pay tribute to their loved ones.
