Section Description

WINTER SESSION COURSE: Dec 28 - Jan 15
Discover the fascinating relationships between pollinators and flowering plants and learn how thoughtful garden design can help support these essential creatures. Students will explore the importance of pollinators, what they need to thrive, and how to select perennial plants that provide food and habitat for bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. Along the way, students will learn practical strategies for creating beautiful, pollinator-friendly gardens in a variety of settings and put their new knowledge into practice by designing their own pollinator habitat garden. This introductory course welcomes students from all academic backgrounds and requires no prior gardening or landscape design experience.

Section Expectation

This 1-credit course is fully online and asynchronous, allowing students to work independently through four learning modules. Each module includes a recorded lecture, assigned readings, and supplemental videos and resources to deepen students' understanding of the course topics.

Evaluation

Students will demonstrate their learning through four open-book content quizzes, one for each learning module, and a final project. For the final project, students will put their new knowledge into practice by designing their own pollinator habitat garden, complete with a thoughtfully selected plant list and garden layout.
