Section Description

WINTER SESSION COURSE: Dec 28 - Jan 15
Whether you're dreaming of growing your own fresh vegetables and herbs, looking to make the most of a backyard garden, or considering a career in growing food, this course will help you get started! Students will explore the essentials of planning, planting, and caring for productive vegetable gardens, from choosing the right crops and varieties to managing common pests and growing challenges. Along the way, you'll learn practical strategies for designing efficient garden spaces, extending the growing season, rotating crops, harvesting at the right time, and more. This introductory course welcomes students from all academic backgrounds and requires no prior gardening experience.

Section Expectation

This is a fully online and asynchronous course. Students will work individually through weekly online learning modules that include assigned reading and other supplemental videos/materials.

Evaluation

Students will demonstrate their learning through weekly open-book quizzes and a hands-on final project where they’ll put their new knowledge into practice by planning and designing their own vegetable garden. Whether it’s a garden they’re ready to plant right away or a dream garden for the future, students will have the opportunity to create a personalized design that reflects their interests and goals.
