About ARTS 2220 A
Exploration of the role of color in painting. Projects will foster comprehension of color vocabulary and a critical understanding necessary for the effective use of color. Prerequisites: ARTS 1010, ARTS 1011, ARTS 1014, ARTS 1100, or ARTS 1400.

Prereqs enforced by the system: ARTS 1010, ARTS 1011 ARTS 1014, ARTS 1100, or ARTS 1400; SART, AHST and ARTE majors only until after the third day of registration; then ARTS and AHST minors may also enroll; beginning Monday April 13th any student may enroll space permitting. Section Description
ARTS122 A Painting: Color and Invention
This is an introductory course in the discipline of painting. Students will increase their visual acuity and literacy through work that focuses on the operation and role of color. Students will increase their knowledge of techniques, formal concepts, painting terminology, historical and contemporary ideas and dialogues, and the course will foster comprehension of color vocabulary and understanding necessary for the effective use of color.
Prerequisite: ARTS 1010, 1100 or 1400.
Section Expectation
Students will be expected to create cogent, visually intelligent compositions that engage viewers. This is not a curse focused on mere self-expression, which is always present regardless of trying, and which cannot be evaluated on its own. In addition to studio work, students are expected to learn about related disciplinary content via reading and lectures; then relate to their studio work and be able to discuss in class. Per University policy regarding work required for a three-credit hour course, a minimum of six hours a week of work is expected outside of class.
Evaluation
Projects are evaluated on based on clarity of intention, imagination, experimentation, critical analysis, diligence and development, and resolution.
