Section Description

Cervantes, Mistral, Lorca, Borges: these are only a few of the authors that we approach and learn from in this introductory course to the literatures of the Spanish-speaking world, which represents a multitude of voices, cultures and places. Structured around a series of themes, students will make connections between texts that cover centuries of political change and artistic renovation. We concentrate on the development of analytical and critical reading and interpretive skills with each text, and evaluate the four standard genres of literature: narrative, poetry, drama, and essay. Reading literary texts also provides ample opportunities to build upon and improve all facets of language acquisition skills, and students are required to write short analytical papers, participate in ample class discussion and present their work to their peers.

Section Expectation
