Prerequisites: BCOR 2500 or NSCI 2100 or NSCI 2105 PACE students with permission and override Special Topics courses cannot carry CC designations
Section Description
The aim of this course is to explore the communication that exists between the gut microbiota and the brain in health and disease. Topics include the role of the gut microbiome in sleep, autism, mood regulation, and neurodegenerative diseases. The course will also emphasize the tools used by researchers working in this field.
This course can be taken to fulfill NSCI category B requirement
Section Expectation
Be able to describe how the gut microbiome interacts with the central nervous system; Recognize the experimental design and tools used by scientists to study the gut microbiota; Interpret scientific literature based on knowledge acquired during the course
