Section Description
CDAE 2990A Applied Approaches to International Cooperation will prepare students interested in international development, diplomacy, defense, or business to work across government agency, public/private sector, and cultural lines to develop, implement, and sustain international programs and projects. Students will gain an interdisciplinary perspective on the diverse and interconnected factors that shape developmental outcomes. At course conclusion, students will better understand the dynamics between governments, businesses, and NGOs in international relations, use systems of analysis and synthesis for studying a challenge or issue, and apply those systems to create a potential solution.
Section Expectation
CDAE 002 is a recommended prerequisite, but not mandatory. It is much more important that you understand and master the skills we will be learning in class. The primary skills you will need to excel in 2990A are critical thinking when analyzing information and situations, the ability to make connections and linkages, and then to express all of these thoughts in verbal and written form. Our primary method of learning will be through reading and listening to others speak, and our primary method of confirming our learning will be through writing and verbal expression of our ideas. Some of you will come to class with these skills already highly developed; others will be learning as we go. This is exactly what we want - interaction with different people from different backgrounds and learning from each other!
Evaluation
CDAE 2990A evaluates student performance with in-class quizzes, a midterm presentation and paper, a graded final practicum involving a live role play of the World Economic Forum in Davos, and a final presentation and paper. Some assignments include group work. Each class builds on the previous, so regular class attendance is required.
