Section Description

This advanced studio and lecture course provides a critical, hands-on examination of the major environmental and ethical impact points within the fashion supply chain. Moving beyond theoretical concepts, students will engage in deep-dive analyses of specific production processes, from fiber and textile creation to garment upcycling, utilizing dedicated studio time to execute experimental, hands-on projects.

Section Expectation

The course is structured to train students to become production innovators, capable of assessing the sustainability profile of a garment at every step. Students will directly explore alternatives to conventional practices in garment production processes. Students will understand fiber and textile construction knowledge, dyeing and finishing techniques, circular economies and zero-waste innovation, sustainable garment production techniques and creative repair techniques, global market place merchandising, and certification processes.

Evaluation

Students will be evaluated on three projects throughout the semester with focused class participation. Students will complete an independent semester long project submitted as their final. The course will be evaluated based on attendance, class participation, and four (4) major projects during the semester.
