About ECON 1400 A

Introduction to economic concepts, institutions, and analysis, particularly as related to the economy as a whole. May be taught with traditional approach or with strong mathematical emphasis.

Section Description

This course introduces macroeconomics, the study of the economy as a whole. You will explore key economic concepts such as inflation, economic growth, and recessions, along with policies like monetary and fiscal policy. By examining how these factors shape the global economy and influence daily life, you will develop a deeper understanding of macroeconomic issues and their real-world implications.

Section Expectation

This course is conducted in person. Students are expected to attend lectures, take notes, and actively engage with the material. The course moves at a relatively fast pace, and students should plan to devote approximately 6–8 hours per week to coursework. We will be using a platform called Achieve for interactive assignments and regular coursework. Students are expected to register for Achieve, which includes a digital version of our required textbook—Macroeconomics (Seventh Edition) by Paul Krugman and Robin Wells.

Evaluation

Final letter grades will be based on three exams and homework assignments.
