Section Description
こんにちは!Welcome! This class is an in-person class! We meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in person. On Tuesdays, you will have assignments such as working on kanji character writing and listening to dialogues. We do not meet on Tuesdays either in person or online. This course is a continuation of Japanese 1100. The goal of the course is to acquire basic proficiency in all four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) along with a solid understanding of the basic structure of the language. Lesson 6-10 of the textbook Genki I will be covered, and other audio-visual materials will be used to facilitate the understanding of the language in its social-cultural context. The course is highly interactive, and you are encouraged to work with your classmates in and out of class so that you can communicate effectively in Japanese. At the end of the course you should be able to use Japanese to: 1. Read and write 72 new kanji characters 2. Make requests, ask permission, and express prohibition 3. Talk about family and describe people’s appearances 4. Talk about vacation plans and past experiences 5. Quote what a person said 6. Give opinions 7. Use informal speech when appropriate 8. Read and write basic letters and essays. Textbook and Workbook: 3rd Edition of Genki I: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese. We will have fun learning Japanese together!
