Section Description

The focus of the course is the financial function in the corporation. We discuss the valuation of resources and proposed resource acquisitions or dispositions by answering two basic questions: (1) what should a firm invest in, and (2) how should the firm raise money. The course develops techniques to answer these questions from the finance perspective. These techniques include: calculating cash flow, determining the value of cash flows (time value), valuing equity and debt, and understanding the relationship between risk and return. Successful completion of BUS 1610 is required before enrolling.

Section Expectation

Students need to have access to the internet for the homework assignments. Class attendance is very important to your understanding of the material. While there is a textbook, it serves the purpose of a reference and the source of homework problems. While the exams are not cumulative the material by nature is.

Evaluation

The course is evaluated through exams (two to three depending on whether the course is a two day a week format or three day a week format), quizzes (six a semester), and homework.
