Are you currently serving as a Teacher of Record on a provisional or emergency license? The University of Vermont’s Competency-Based Teacher Preparation Program offers a flexible, fully online pathway to demonstrate and document your teaching expertise—while you continue leading your classroom.

This innovative program allows you to earn a recommendation for full licensure by completing a series of asynchronous, evidence-based modules aligned with the InTASC Core Teaching Standards—the nationally recognized framework for effective teaching.

HOW TO REGISTER AS A NEW UVM Advance/Non-Degree STUDENT:

  • Complete the Pre-Registration form
  • Within 1-2 business days you’ll receive an email from the Registrar’s Office with further instructions
  • Activate your UVM student account (also called your NetID)
  • Log into MyUVM dashboard to register for course(s)

Overview

This program is designed for:

  • Educators working as Teachers of Record (PreK–12) on provisional or emergency licenses
  • Candidates with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree
  • Those not currently enrolled in another licensure pathway
  • Educators seeking licensure in any UVM-approved endorsement area

(Candidates must be working in a Vermont school setting.)

Curriculum

  • UVM faculty have created two asynchronous, online courses that cover the core teaching standards in a consistent and practical structure:
  • As you teach, you’ll submit evidence that demonstrates your competency in each of the 10 InTASC standards—directly connected to your real classroom practice.
  • Your work is evaluated by UVM faculty, ensuring alignment with Vermont’s professional teaching expectations and the Vermont Licensing Portfolio (VLP).
