Scheduling Information

We have adopted a data-informed practice to help academic units serve learners most effectively.  We ask departments to:

  • Review prior enrollment trends and student demand,
  • Prioritize high-enrollment and high-impact courses,
  • Minimize course conflicts within majors,
  • Balance online, hybrid, and on-campus offerings, and
  • Consider course sequencing and timing to support completion pathways.

Banner Section Management & Deadlines

Departments and Dean’s offices are responsible for entering courses into Banner within the defined build period. PACE will provide detailed instructions and deadline reminders.  Due to time constraints leading up to the summer semester, the final deadline for a course to be added is two weeks in advance of the course start date, provided an existing, active faculty member will be assigned. Please note that when a course is added after the standard scheduling deadline, payment for the assignment will be processed one pay period later than usual. In instances where a late course addition must be made, we ask academic units to communicate the payroll delay to their impacted faculty (for convenience, a template is here: linked email template to notify the instructor of the late course addition and adjusted payment timeline).

Understanding Campus Codes and Contract Responsibilities

Each summer course must have a Campus code in Banner:

  • C = PACE-managed (PACE issues contracts, processes pay[CK9] , and issues enrollment reports)
  • M = Unit-managed (Academic unit issues and manages contracts and payments)

Only independent academic work (e.g., thesis, dissertation, research, continuous registration, teaching assistantship, or other non-instructional credits) should carry an “M” code. PACE will circulate a list of M-coded courses for departmental confirmation each term.  Have questions on coding a course as “C” or “M”?  –> Use this linked flow chart to determine whether a course should have an M code or C code.
