Hiring Processes
Faculty Recruitment
Departments are responsible for identifying qualified faculty for summer courses in time for them to be hired before the course starts. Recruitment should begin as soon as the course build opens to allow sufficient time for review, approval, and contract processing. UVM HR requires finalized information in advance of contract start dates. Units should indicate new hires at least 90 days in advance of course start; shorter timelines may result in delayed course assignment and negative impact to students.
Teaching Assistant (TA) Assignment Procedures
TA assignments should be aligned with course needs and Dean’s office budget approvals. Units are encouraged to pre-approve TA hires at the course level when approving budgets, including setting minimum enrollment, maximum work hours, and TA pay rates. PACE initiates requests to faculty for TA information when course enrollments meet the minimum, starting five weeks before the course start date.
Payroll and Contract Deadlines
PACE submits all instructor hires to HR Faculty Services by posted deadlines to ensure timely payment and adherence to collective bargaining agreements (CBAs). To ensure timely hires and payments, academic units must adhere to stated submission deadlines. PACE circulates a full calendar of deadlines each fall.
HR Services Coordination
HR Faculty Services activates appointments and ensures compliance with employment policies, CBAs, and pay schedules. PACE confirms that all personnel actions are complete before the start of instruction. PACE confirms that all personnel actions are complete before the start of instruction.
