Summer is a Registered Veterinary Technician who specializes in supporting pets and their owners through all aspects of the end-of-life journey, including geriatric and hospice care, euthanasia, aftercare, and pet loss. She is also part of a research group with the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy. This group has investigated a variety of end-of-life topics such as pet owner preferences for aftercare, and how veterinarians provide end-of-life information on their hospital websites. Summer is passionate about normalizing death and grief, and loves working with others who share this goal.
Summer received her BA in Psychology and her MS in Animal Behavior from San Diego State University.
She is Low Stress Handling and Fear Free certified, and is Certified in Thanatology by the Association for
Death Education and Counseling. In her spare time, she tries to stay one step ahead of her endlessly
energetic and stubborn dachshund mix.
