Section Description

This course provides an introduction to medical anthropology, an important subfield of anthropology which involves both academic research and practical applications. Medical anthropology brings social, biological, and cultural perspectives to the exploration of health and illness experiences, healer-patient interactions, healing traditions and therapeutic practices, and the political economy of health and health care within and across different societies and cultures of the world.

Section Expectation

The course will be a combination of lectures and discussion, and per University policy regarding work required for a three credit hour course, you will be expected to do 1-3 chapters of reading prior to each class session along with occasional podcasts and videos. You will also be expected to engage in class discussions and activities, both in and outside of class time.

Evaluation

Grades will be based on attendance, fishbowl discussion participation, abstract write-ups, and exams.
