Section Description
MU 1310 is an introduction to the fundamentals of music theory, including notation, rhythm, melody, scales, keys, and harmony. This course is not designed for music majors, or for those who already have an extensive background in music. It can, however, be used to prepare students for entry into other theory courses if they lack the necessary prerequisite skills.
Section Expectation
The student will understand essential musical concepts involving pitch, rhythm and meter, notation, major and minor scales, key signatures, intervals, triads, dominant seventh chords, and following a musical ‘road map’. We will analyze and understand music on a deeper level. There is an emphasis on creativity as well - each concept will be accompanied by a corresponding composition activity.
