About EDSP 6150 OL1
Curricular and assessment areas essential to math development for students with disabilities. Development, adaptation of curricula and assessment in elementary and secondary education for students with mild, moderate, and severe disabilities. Prerequisite: Special Education Graduate student or Instructor permission.

Section Description
Course Description & Rationale:
Through the lens of best mathematical practices, this course looks at evidence-based intervention and instruction for high quality math instruction for students with specialized needs.
Students will develop an understanding of various theories of numeracy, literacy and current, evidence-based practices for the purpose of planning/delivering effective instruction and designing lesson plans for learners with a range of individual differences (incl. cultural and linguistic)
Students will use a variety of numeracy/literacy curriculum-based assessment tools for the purpose of addressing individual student needs in mathematics.
Instructional Strategies:
Students will incorporate numeracy strategies while designing standards-based lesson plans for students eligible for special education in inclusive general education settings.
Learning Environments and Social Interactions:
Students will learn the responsive teaching mode, related to numeracy and literacy, in the context of teaching and learning in culturally responsive learning environments that value diversity and encourage student independence and self-motivation.
