Section Description

This graduate-level course explores the complex interplay between natural hazards, risk management, and community resilience in an era of increasing environmental challenges. Moving beyond traditional emergency management approaches, the course emphasizes proactive strategies to strengthen communities' adaptive capacities and enhance their ability to thrive in the face of natural disasters and long-term environmental changes. Students will examine theoretical frameworks and practical applications.

Section Expectation

This is an online, asynchronous class. Through case studies, guest lectures, and applied projects, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to foster resilient communities that can effectively prepare for, respond to, and recover from both sudden natural disasters and slow-onset environmental changes.
