Section Description
This course will include two weeks of travel around London during which we will see several plays and read novels set in London. We will visit the reconstructed Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and a range of other playhouses. Our exploration of London will also include visits to museums and places that have been represented in London literature. Our goal is both to explore the London stage—the plays that have been historically and are currently performed in London—and to consider a range of literature set in London. What is the relationship of drama, poetry, and fiction to the place that it is performed in or that it represents? How has London changed from the late 16th and early 17th century to the 21st century?
