Section Description

In this survey course we will debate amongst our selves some of the top Public Health problems and concerns happening today. You will learn about the compelling need for creative and multidisciplinary solutions, and how stronger policies to improve the health of the public might be accomplished.

Section Expectation

Students will be expected to participate in all aspects of the course, including the required readings, lectures, and videos. Active engagement in the online discussion forum (YellowDig) is required and access to Brightspace, Yellowdig, and Microsoft Word is necessary. The required text is: Turnock’s Public Health: What It Is and How It Works (8th ed). Birkhead, G.B, Morrow, C.B., Pirani, S.B.: Jones & Bartlett Publishing (2026). ISBN: 978-1-284-01914-8.

Evaluation

1. Discussion (10%) - using Yellowdig with expectation for community involvement 2. Quizzes (20%) – Weekly quiz modules 1-7 3. Policy Analysis (20%) - You will be asked to write 5 brief policy reviews on specific topics 4. Written Assignments (20%) - 4 writing reflections 5. Final assignment (30%) You will be asked to create an 8-10 minute presentation on a public health policy topic including challenges and opportunities.
