Section Description

This course provides an immersion clinical practicum of 60 hours for the primary care management of acute and common health problems encountered in primary care. The course provides an opportunity for the student to promote optimal levels of well-being and functioning. It focuses on the application of critical reasoning related to diagnoses, and therapeutic interventions within an ethical framework in the provision of primary health care. Strategies for risk analysis and reduction, screening, lifestyle change, disease detection and prevention will be incorporated into primary care practice. Students will assess, manage, and evaluate common conditions. Practicum experiences will foster the integration of ethical and diagnostic judgments and therapeutic interventions while providing an opportunity for the student to promote optimal levels of well-being and functioning.

Section Expectation

60 clinical hours total, 5 consecutive clinical days at Appletree Bay Primary Care

Evaluation

1.) Clinical proficiency (satisfactory/unsatisfactory) 2.) Post-clinical written assignments to be submitted within seven days of completing the clinical week.
