Section Description

This course presents an introduction to the environmental, social and economic dimensions of coffee production, commercialization and consumption. Specifically, students will learn: 1) History and geography of coffee production; 2) The different components, actors and power dynamics of the coffee value chain 3) How coffee is produced and the challenges and opportunities that affect the livelihoods of coffee producers, with an emphasis on smallholder farmers; and 4) Some opportunities and challenges to better integrate the coffee value chain with environmental, livelihood and equity initiatives.
