Section Description

Drawing has always been a fundamental part of art making. However, in the last several years drawing has gained credibility as an established method of creating finished artworks. Intermediate drawing investigates in depth, the materials, techniques, and concepts used to create drawings. Part of the course structure will include critiques in which students will be asked to discuss each other’s projects in conjunction with presenting the their own work. In this course students will have the opportunity to advance the drawing skills they already have as well as experiment with materials and methods that will challenge traditional concepts. The class will emphasize observational and research-based drawing. We will also study figuration.

Section Expectation

Students should be invested in approaching the ideas and methods that are inherent to drawing. Students should have an understanding of basic drawing approaches (ARTS 001 is a prerequisite for this course). The lab fee for the class covers most of the materials and paper.

Evaluation

Evaluation: Completion of assigned projects, participation in critiques, attendance.
