Section Description

If you want to learn how to plan, manage, and deliver projects that make a real difference in communities—this class is for you. Over the semester, you will explore how effective project management supports equitable and sustainable development across public, private, and nonprofit settings. Students will learn to move through the full project lifecycle, including analyzing community needs and context, defining goals, identifying stakeholders and power dynamics, developing feasible interventions, managing schedules and budgets, and designing systems for evaluation and accountability. Alongside technical tools like Gantt charts, logic models, and monitoring frameworks, the course emphasizes the human side of project work—leadership, facilitation, and collaborative decision-making. You’ll practice strategies for building trust, navigating conflict, and leading diverse teams through complex challenges, preparing you to manage projects that are efficient, inclusive, and impactful.

Complete weekly readings and participate actively in discussions and class activities; Come prepared to collaborate and engage in respectful dialogue; Work steadily on a small-group project applying course concepts to a real or hypothetical community challenge; Complete short written reflections on leadership, facilitation, and ethical project practice; Participate in low-stakes exercises and peer feedback to strengthen planning and management skills.
