About HP 2100 A

Introduction to the preservation of historic built and cultural environments, with emphasis on the history of the historic preservation movement in America; laws available to protect historic resources; policy making considerations; national standards for preservation, rehabilitation, restoration, and reconstruction; and best practices for managing historic sites and structures. Prerequisites: A Catamount Core WIL1 course; minimum Sophomore standing.

Section Description

HP 2100 offers an introduction to historic preservation by examining the goals, history, and practice of heritage conservation, cultural resource management from local, national, and global perspectives. It also introduces various research and practice methods to address preservation sustainability, accessibility, preparedness, social inclusion, and compliance objectives. This course has been approved by the Catamount Core Curriculum Committee to serve as a Sustainability Learning Outcomes (SLO) Course that respects UVM's commitment towards envisioning and planning for a sustainable society and social inclusion through the goals articulated in "Our Common Ground."

Section Expectation

All writing must be authored directly by each student. It is expected that all work will be thoroughly proof-read and checked for spelling and grammatical and formatting errors before being submitted. Plagiarism is not tolerated at the University of Vermont. Please also review the University of Vermont's Code of Academic Integrity. All Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) uses must be disclosed.

Evaluation

Assignments will be assessed on the following: submission by due date; quality of the writing; breadth of findings; extent that submitted work reinforces understanding of course topics.
