Section Description

“The body is not mute, but it is inarticulate; it does not use speech, but begets it,” says Arthur Frank in The Wounded Storyteller. Stories of the Body is a prose-writing senior seminar that examines the translation of bodily experience into written testimony. We’ll read essays and short stories that fall under themes including beauty, death, illness, sex, nature, and parenthood. Students will write two short stories/essays and one 10-page story/essay, the latter of which will be workshopped, revised, and expanded to 15-20 pages.
