About ENGL 2000 D
Survey of literary and cultural theory introducing a variety of major approaches to the interpretation of literature. Required for all English majors and minors. Pre/Co-requisite: ENGL 1500.

Section Description
Literary texts are not inert but organic. Reading a text means entering into a conversation with, among others, the author, competing literary critics, and other readers. This course will serve as an introduction to some of the major approaches and shifts in literary theory and will allow students to apply a variety of critical approaches to any given text with the awareness that there is no one way – or “correct way” -- to read a text.
Section Expectation
Active engagement with the various theoretical approaches and readings. Seminar style discussions.
Evaluation
Annotated Bib project, short paper, final paper, group work, student-led discussions.
