About ASCI 3470 A
Case-based course enhances students' abilities to integrate information, use logical thought processes, and produce concise, organized solutions to real problems, from individual horses to industry-wide. Prerequisites: ASCI 2470, ASCI 2400, ASCI 2130, or Instructor permission.

Section Description
Equine Industry Issues is a lecture based class. Content covered includes current events and current equine issues at the local, regional, and national level. The following topics will be covered: insurance, taxes, purchase and lease agreements, commission, land use, waste management and water protection, horse welfare, trainer certification, farm management issues, and rules & regulations for horse sports. Each class students will discuss current issues including the history / past practices versus current practice, each person’s role in addressing the issue, and possible solutions / approaches. There will be some guest speakers with expertise in the equine industry.
Section Expectation
Students are expected to attend class. Participation counts toward the overall grade. Reading material is posted on Brightspace. There are group and individual assignments. There are no tests.
Evaluation
Students are graded on participation, attendance, a debate, a poster project, present an industry topic, and a semester long research project and presentation.
