About WLIT 2310 A

A survey course on classical Chinese literature. Knowledge of Chinese language is preferred but not required. Pre/Co-requisite: A Catamount Core WIL1 course.

Section Description

This course introduces some of the most influential classical Chinese literary works—including poetry, prose, ci (lyric verses), drama, novels, and short stories from ancient Chinese history—through their English translations. By engaging with these translated texts, students will develop the ability to understand and appreciate traditional Chinese culture.

Section Expectation

Attend lectures on MW at 3:30 pm - 4:45 pm, read the assigned literary works in English translation, participate in discussions on these literary works. A free e-textbook is provided.

Evaluation

Grades are based on attendance and participation in discussions, two tests, one presentation, and a term paper based on the presentation.
