About CHIN 4020 A
Through the reading and translation of stories and reports about countries around the world, enhances target language proficiency while developing a stronger sense of world citizenship, acquiring a more balanced global perspective, and gaining a deeper understanding of global issues. Prerequisite: CHIN 3100 for native speakers of English; no prerequisite for native speakers of Chinese.

Section Description
CHIN 4020 “Translation: Global Awareness” 国际视野中英对译 is a course designed for upper-level Chinese language learners to improve their Chinese proficiency and for native Chinese speakers to improve their English proficiency via Chinese-to-English and English-to-Chinese translation. Course materials are inspiring stories in English or Chinese about people of China, of the United States and of other countries around the world. Students of this course will develop a stronger sense of world citizenship, acquire a more balanced global perspective, gain a higher stand looking at global issues, and will at the same time enhance their target Chinese/English language proficiency by translating various types of Chinese and English language materials. Course materials will be provided to students by CHIN 4020 course instructor.
Section Expectation
Meet twice a week in class with each lasting 75 minutes. Every two weeks, one theme will be the focus of study with one Chinese text story and one English text story. Preview the text to learn before class, interact with the instructor and classmates in class, do homework after class, and submit homework assignments on time.
Evaluation
Grades are based on attendance, homework, monthly tests, one presentation and final examination.
