About ARTS 2030 A
Students will work with interdisciplinary approaches to art subjects. Representative topics: Multi-Media Documentary; Socially-Engaged Art. May repeat for credit with different content. Topics vary by offering; periodic offering at intervals that may exceed four years. Prerequisites: ARTS 1010, ARTS 1011, ARTS 1014, ARTS 1100, or ARTS 1400.

Prereqs enforced by the system: ARTS 1010 or ARTS 1011 or ARTS 1014 or 1100 or 1400; SART, AHST, ARTE majors only during the first week of registration; CAS ARTS, ARTH minors only for the following 3 days; Non-CAS minors for the following 2 days; then all restrictions will be removed; Minimum sophomore standing. PACE students with permission and override. Fee: $140.00
Section Description
Sound Art - What is it? How is it different from music? Let's learn about feedback, loops, glitch, sampling, field recording, contact microphones and other fun stuff! We'll develop acoustic awareness, and cultivate the practice of DEEP LISTENING. Come get weird! In Sound Art, the auditory experience is the primary medium, creating immersive and interdisciplinary sonic experiences that explore spatial relationships, acoustics, performance, and the physicality of sound. We'll study artists like Pauline Oliveros, Florian Hecker, Susan Philipz, Tarek Atoui, Janet Cardiff, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, and many others.
Evaluation
Evaluation is based on completed assigned projects using specified softwares, materials, tools, and processes.
