Section Description
This Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) immerses students in the study of fungal biodiversity with an emphasis on unusual members of the Vermont fungal flora. The course format includes weekly lectures and discussions and laboratory work to gather high quality morphological and molecular data on selected fungal taxa from the UVM Macrofungi Collection. These studies will contribute to understanding Vermont fungal biodiversity, and how our species fit within the larger species concepts. Discussions will examine the ecological roles of selected taxa, and how genome data of can inform our understanding of fungal roles in ecosystems. Reading will likely be from the primary literature as well as likely from the textbook: Moore, D., Robson, G.D., & Trinci, A.P.J. (2020). The 21st Century Guidebook to Fungi, 2nd Edition. Cambridge University Press. More details to follow.
