Section Description
Evolutionary Ecology explores how evolutionary processes shape ecological patterns and how ecological context feeds back on evolution. Evolutionary ecology is a seminar based course. Through case studies and primary literature, we examine natural selection, adaptation, life-history trade-offs, sexual and kin selection, phenotypic plasticity, coevolution, eco-evolutionary dynamics, community genetics, invasion biology, and global change. Students learn to evaluate evidence from experiments and observational studies, read and discuss the current scientific literature. Assessments will be several short write ups of the weekly readings, a midterm exam, a lecture given by a team of students, and a final project that asks you to frame an evolutionary question and its related hypotheses into a poster presentation for a mini-symposium. Prerequisites are BCOR 2100 Ecology and Evolution or equivalent and BCOR 2300 Genetics or equivalent.

Students are expected to read the assigned articles and come to every class with questions and comments on the assigned readings.
