About POLS 3400 B
Examines varied topics concerning the American political system in a seminar format. May repeat for credit with different content. Topics vary by offering; periodic offering at intervals that may exceed four years. Prerequisites: POLS 1300 or POLS 1013; three hours of Political Science at the 2000-level.

Section Description
This course will examine the inner workings of American state governments, particularly the interaction between elected officials, bureaucrats, interest groups and the public. We will discuss how political decisions are made in states and the implications of the policies on citizens. Students will also learn the basics of researching American state politics and conduct an independent research project using original data collection.
Section Expectation
Students will be expected to consume relevant literature from political science and public policy scholars to better understand the American federal system. Students will also be expected to review academic literature and design and conduct a research project.
Evaluation
Assignments include exams, presentations of peer-reviewed scholarly work, and an independent research project.
