Delivers in-depth applied and clinical functional measurement and evaluation techniques with subsequent exercise prescription for a variety of populations and conditions. Section Description

The overall objective of this course is to expand upon the clinical and theoretical aspects of exercise physiology to the evaluative and prescriptive aspects of safe and effective exercise programming. The student should gain a fundamental understanding of how to screen and evaluate patients/clients, perform exercise testing, interpret testing results, and then be able to prescribe safe and effective exercise programs using guidelines and recommendations from the American College of Sports Medicine. This course presents a comprehensive overview of screening and evaluation, exercise testing, and prescription for a wide range of populations. Prerequisite: Senior standing in Exercise Science. Pre/Co-requisites: EXSC 3500, EXSC 3501, Junior standing in Exercise Science.

Section Expectation

The successful student will gain an understanding of the processes involved in prescribing safe and effective therapeutic exercise in healthy individuals as well as patients with a variety of health conditions.

Evaluation

Practical Exam- 100 pts
Students will work in small groups and be assessed on their ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the areas of: patient/client screening, evaluation, testing and data interpretation.

Written Practical Case Study-50 pts
Students will work in small groups to complete a comprehensive case study.

Class Activities- 20 pts each
Students will complete class activities as part of the practical components of the course.

Group Presentation-50 pts Students will work in groups no more than three to deliver a 25-30-minute presentation on a specific population. Time will also be reserved for the class to ask questions.
