Section Description

This course introduces students to rhythm-based indoor cycling as a dynamic and immersive fitness modality. Through the integration of music, movement, and performance metrics, students will learn to optimize cardiovascular conditioning and muscular endurance. We will explore how curated playlists, choreographed sequences, and bike computer technology can enhance both physical output and emotional engagement. Class sessions will feature themed rides that span decades, genres, and artists, inviting students to connect with music as a motivational tool. While not required, the use of a heart rate monitor or Apple Watch is encouraged to take advantage of the Schwinn Z bikes’ syncing capabilities. In addition to twice-weekly cycling sessions, students will participate in Recovery Yoga classes one to two times per month to support mobility, breath awareness, and active recovery.

Section Expectation

As a physical education activity course, active participation is essential to the learning experience. Students are expected to be present, engaged, and committed to personal growth throughout the semester. Assessment is based on effort, consistency, and skill development rather than baseline fitness levels. Students should arrive prepared to fully participate in all class activities, both on and off the bike.

Evaluation

To successfully complete the course, students must attend at least 80% of scheduled classes, with no more than 20% absences permitted. There are no make-up assignments for unexcused absences. Partial credit (50%) will be awarded for late arrivals or early departures. In addition to in-class participation, students will complete three brief online assignments designed to assess comprehension of key concepts related to rhythm-based cycling, training principles, and recovery strategies.
