About CDAE 2600 A
Emphasizes the human-processes for successful design innovation across myriad real-world contexts rather than design innovation within any one context area. Broad range of design applications/interests will include but not be limited to: Universal Design, Communication Design, Landscape/Architectural Design, Ecological/Environmental Design, and Community Planning, Urban+Rural Design. Prerequisite: CDAE 1600.

Section Description
This course focuses on ecological design through experimentation and conceptual frameworks within hands-on projects. Projects are based on the creative exploration of materiality, innovative processes, and collaborative work. Students will think about a wide range of questions that engage in creative solutions for real-world problems to think about new futures within art and design. Activities in this course include visiting special collections, artist guest lectures, and applications of textile and fiber-based works (papermaking, embroidery, natural dyeing) within the realm of design thinking. Broad range of elements and techniques will be covered related to Ecological/Environmental Design, Communication Design, and Textile/Fiber Arts. Prerequisite: CDAE 1600 or ARTS 1400 or higher.
Section Expectation
Students are required to attend class weekly, participate in tours in campus/community, and attend guest lectures. Students will work on design projects in/outside of class with formal critique and discussions. Sketchbooks required in class for development of project work and drawing iterations.
Evaluation
Grades are based on attendance and participation, and several individual-based projects including final projects.
