Section Description

This course will focus on the business of PRESENTING LIVE PERFORMANCES with an emphasis on music of all genres. Topics covered will include:

• History, background, and structure of the presenting business
• Choosing Artists (Curation) and Budgeting
• Marketing
• Production
• Jobs in the field

Section Expectation

Projects and assignments will be preparation for final project which will be the creation of a model live performance series for which students will develop a mission, programming selections, marketing plan and basic budget. Final Project will be presented to the class using visual format, video/audio samples, and other technology as necessary

Evaluation

Students will be expected to participate fully in class discussions, demonstrate their growing knowledge, mastery of the materials and understanding of the readings, assignments, and projects and ask provocative questions.

Class Participation, in class discussion, and in class assignments/presentations including ongoing curatorial assignment – 35% of grade

Research projects as assigned: 30% of grade

Final Project – 35% of grade
