About ARTS 2100 A
Intensive investigation of drawing and elements related to the discipline. Focus on expanding techniques and developing strategies for making drawings. Prerequisites: ARTS 1010, ARTS 1011, ARTS 1014, ARTS 1100, or ARTS 1400.
Notes
Prereqs enforced by the system: ARTS 1010, or 1011, or 1014, or 1100 or 1400; SART, AHST, ARTE majors only during the first week of registration; CAS ARTS , ARTH minors only for the following 3 days; Non-CAS minors for the following 2 days; then all restrictions will be removed; Minimum sophomore standing. PACE students with permission and override. Fee: $105.00
Section Description
Drawing can be thought of like any other trade or skill, it takes time and more time. You can’t expect to pick up a pencil or piece of charcoal and automatically become the next Vija Celmins. One question to ask yourself is what is your process? My hope is that you will figure this out early in the class and trust it. Do you work logically, in a linear fashion? Or is your process more intuitive and non-linear? Trusting your individual process will very much help you succeed in this class. One thing to make clear, is that at times, you will find yourself in an uncomfortable place, drawing wise. You won’t always know where to go next, and that’s okay! Sometimes the best place to be in a drawing is somewhere that makes you feel strange about it. Drawing might make you feel on top of the world but it also might frustrate you. Those are all common things to feel.
