About THE 2300 A
Theory and practice for stage managing in the non-commercial theatre. Prerequisites: THE 1100; (THE 1300; THE 1310, THE 1320, or THE 1330) or (THE 1319, THE 1329, or THE 1339).

Section Description
This course is an introduction to the procedures, practices, and techniques of stage management. Students will be introduced to the fundamental skills required of a stage manager from pre-planning through the end of the final performance, with an emphasis on current standards, practices, and technologies. Topics explored will include: Production organization, production preparation, auditions, the rehearsal process, the performance process, and union standards and regulations. The class will also focus on understanding leadership roles and styles and how stage mangers contribute to the artistic process.
Section Expectation
In addition to class lectures, students will attend and observe auditions and at least 3 rehearsals for Theatre and Dance program spring productions. This will include technical rehearsals and performances, which take place during evenings and weekends.
Evaluation
Grades will be based on lecture attendance and participation, rehearsal and audition attendance, quizzes, and class assignments.
