In stages, create a project proposal and evaluation plan for a health-related program. A complete proposal and evaluation plan will be required of each student as the final course outcome. Prerequisites: HSCI 2300; Public Health Sciences major; minimum Junior standing.

Section Description

This course will introduce students to the fundamental concepts and techniques of planning, implementing, and evaluating public health projects and programs. Project planning can be defined as a series of specific steps that support projects of all types in achieving intended outcomes successfully. This course will present methods for the identification of population-based health needs, the development of projects to meet those needs, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of these projects. Throughout the semester, students will develop a strong understanding of the basic elements of project planning in health.

Section Expectation

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Assess the needs of a population and identify those directly impacted by a health priority
2. Define the levels of intervention and determine measurable project goals and objectives
3. Identify evidence-based project activities and responsible individuals
4. Develop a realistic timeline and budget that will allow for the completion of project tasks
5. Select appropriate evaluation method (process, effect, or impact)
