Introduction to applied practice in contemporary dance. Open to students with no previous dance training. Emphasis on fundamentals of contemporary dance technique and movement mechanics. Includes overview of modern/contemporary dance history and experiential anatomy. Reading, writing, and attending live performances required. May be repeated for credit.

Section Description
This studio course introduces students to beginner/intermediate contemporary (modern) dance technique. It's designed for students who are: New to dance, or Have previous dance experience but no formal training in contemporary dance, or Taking their first technique class in the UVM Dance Program. Contemporary dance is rooted in individuality, experimentation, and personal expression. Students will explore a range of movement practices and concepts, learning to connect physical technique with personal insight.
